BadBartopia is being completely revised. I have decided to go with a "tabs"' approach for the site navigation, and many of the tabs and links still lead nowhere. I am also reworking the password logic, and many of the other myriad changes I have been putting off. Please bear with me as the site's remodeling continues...

December 15, 2002

No one has given me feedback on the little princess story that I uploaded last month (or anything else on the site, for that matter). I guess no one is visiting my page and I'm writing these news flashes for myself. Oh well...

Downloads page: I have added tabs to split my drawings and the downloads into two different pages (to solve the overlapping problem on monitors with < 1024x768 resolutions).

Princess Page: I have added the latest Portraits (11/23/2002 sitting) of the girls, some homemade video, and a few snapshots. I have purchased a TV tuner card which I hope to be able to use to create a few more videos of the girls (Keli's baby videos and her Christmas performance video) if I can figure out how to make it work. Windows XP and my nVidia video card are not playing well with the ATI tuner card.

I recently noticed that Mark Oakley put an email I sent him in the back of Thieves and Kings #40. How embarrassing--I thought I was sending it to him, not to all of comic-dom.

The back burner remains as crowded as ever.

I have added pictures and a little text to the bio, but it is still far from current.

I still have not created the XML collectible page, or made changes to Collex (to export the data to the XML format).

I have yet to do anything new with the Hitchhiker's Guide.

The password/encryption logic remains as archaic as ever.

Motivation continues to elude me.

November 29, 2002 Thanksgiving Day

I have uploaded a story that I started and began illustrating a couple of years ago. It's about a lonely little princess--let me know if you think it's awful and I should just limit my hobbies to activities not involving writing or illustrating. If I leave it on my site, I'm not sure where the entry point will be--probably within the Hitchhiker's Guide to Badbartopia frame.

I had planned to figure out the whole CGI-mail thing to add real email capabilities to the site, but had to go with PHP's mail function when I, after numerous failed attempts and a futile search for guidance, finally surrendered. Not that the PHP mail function is, in any way, inferior to CGI--I was just hoping to learn something new.

As for the rest, slacking...still slacking. Here is what remains on the back burner...
new additions to my bio (I have added a little, but much more remains to be told),
the XML collectible page, which requires making changes to Collex first (to export the data to the XML format),
completion of the Hitchhiker's Guide,
and better encrypted/hidden password logic.

That will be all.

November 19, 2002

Okay, so I haven't done anything productive for a few days...

I did frame-ize the main page in an attempt to make the page more readable. I've also done some work on the dark side of Badbartopia. The news for the Dark Side will be there.

Here's what's on the back burner...
the XML collectible page, which requires making changes to Collex first (to export the data to the XML format),
completion of the Hitchhiker's Guide,
new additions to my bio,
and some more encrypted/hidden password logic.

That's it for now.

November 16, 2002

My next project is the XML collectible page, which requires making changes to Collex first (to export the data to the XML format).
The Hitchhiker's Guide...soon, maybe. I want to get this XML stuff done, first.
The Bio section continues to suffer...

I have added a page with information regarding changes in the overtime exemption laws for qualified California Software Developers. There is also some general exempt employee information regarding time off from work.

November 11, 2002

My XML resume is now online with Dan's special "resume" as a second record. The XML lookup screen is online and should be working. Maybe I'll get to the collectible XML page now, which requires making changes to Collex first.

The Bio section continues to suffer...

Mark Oakley updated his site recently. He's putting out a CD (kinda). You should check his page out--immediately.

Star Wars and the special edition of Fellowships of the Ring come out this week! Yippee!!

November 4, 2002

My XML resume is now online. I am having difficulties with the XML lookup screen, but at least I have begun working on it. The collectible XML page (which will be generated by Collex) is still nothing more than a dream.

November 2, 2002

I am in the procss of adding an XML version of my resume and a tool to lookup data from within the XML document (and plan to create an XML version of my collectible listing), so I guess my claim that "All the pages/links should function now" is no longer true.

I am still in the process of creating the Hitchhiker's Guide. Soon, I hope. I have simplified my vision of the whole thing to make it a little more approachable, so it may be done sometime this week.

The bio section has been suffering badly from neglect. I hope to at least get it caught up to within a few years of the present soon.

October 25, 2002

All the pages/links should function now.

The Hitchhiker's Guide is little more than a screen that will give you an idea of the functionality to come, but I haven't been able to locate the motivation to do any more.

October 13, 2002

I have finished all but 2 new links to lists of my stuff (PHP pages) on the downloads page: MP3 and MPEG. I plan to get to those sometime this week.

I have also added another download (not one of mine) to the downloads page: Crimson editor. It's a great all purpose ascii editor with a lot of features.

There is a new executable for the collex appliction with working SQL dumps for each asset type.

I still haven't started the HHGTG. I suspect that I will need to re-read the books again (I just finished re-reading them a couple of weeks ago) before I start this (and create the guide entries as I go along).

Oh, one last thing--I added a subdomain for my good friend Dan Denney.

October 12, 2002

I have finally created a page with PHP. It's a simple thing--just a comic book lookup screen (based on title, publisher and artist). But it's a start. The link is in the clockwork guy's head on the downloads page.

I'm not sure where I'm going next. Maybe the Hitchhikers guide...we'll see.

Other than that, there's not anything new to talk about.

October 10, 2002

Well, I haven't begun work on the PHP portions of the site...but I have managed to import data into one of the mySql tables (after modifying my Collex application to create SQL dump files in addition to the html and comma-delimited ascii files it already exported), so tomorrow may be the big day. There's always hope.

I have again updated the collex (collectible management system) executable with a new enhancement. It will now create a SQL dump file (for importing data into "tighter" security systems). It is still pending completion of the export functionality for every type of asset other than comic books, but that's not a huge deal to finish, so it may be finished any day now...

October 7, 2002

The PHP portions of my site are nearing...well, not so much completion as...I'm almost ready to start working on them. So I've got that going for me, which is nice...

I have updated the collex (comic book/collectible management system) executable with a few enhancements. It is still pending completion of the export to comma-delimited ascii and html of every type of asset other than comic books, but it's really close to be completely finished now.

October 2, 2002

The PHP portions of my site remain little more than a dream for now, but I have scanned and uploaded 6 new images of my beautiful girls.

Other than that, there's not much new to report. I have added a news archive (you can go there to see the previous installments of the Badbartopia times) and a guide to Badbartopia (just beneath this section).

September 30, 2002

I haven't had much time to work on the page this week. I did scribble some notes for the online Hitchhiker's guide, but not much else has been done.

My autobiography remains mired in the "high school" years, and I have yet to add the many memories that have come since the last time I stopped writing.

The other pictures of my beautiful girls remain buried in a box somewhere, so nothing new there, yet. If you don't have access and I know who you are, email me and I will give you access to this page.

I have finally taken a digital picture of the Arnold drawing (under glass, with reflections galore, unfortunately), so all my drawings that have survived the blitzkrieg of my life are now available for viewing.

September 24, 2002

Very nearly everything should be working now.

Main page: The biography is a work in progress. I hope to, at the very least, catch up to the post-high school years in the near future, but every time I stop working on it, I think of a million things I ommitted.

Princess Gallery: There are a few pictures I haven't been able to locate and scan, but it is nearing completion (until the next set of pictures is taken). If you don't have access and I know who you are, email me and I will give you access to this page.

DownLoad Area: All downloads are now available. Some of the setup procedures are kind of tricky, so let me know if you have problems if you are trying any of these. I have even finished scaning my drawings (all but the Arnold drawing-- it's framed, so I'm not quite sure how to do that one). My 8.5" x 11" scanner was unable to capture the entire image for most of the drawings, so a few are in parts and others are just cropped.

Douglas Adams Tribute page: I still haven't had time to do anything here yet--soon, I hope. This is the page that requires the most work. I am in the process of building an online Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (no, not the book. I'm talking about the actual Hitchhiker's guide that Ford and Arthur consult throughout the books). I am also working on animating a little gree hitchhiker guy to fly around the screen (the easier of the two tasks).

[man, this news flash sounds an awful lot like all the previous news flashes...]

September 16, 2002

I have been dilligently working on my page, so a lot of the broken links should now be working:

Main page: Everything should be done here. The biography has only been started, but it is more than a construction sign now.

Princess Gallery: I am still working on scanning some pictures, but it's done, for the most part. If you don't have access and I know who you are, email me and I will give you access to this page.

DownLoad Area: I have added links to download the files, but haven't uploaded the files for downloading yet. I will continue working on this. I have added the "My Drawings" section, but haven't had time to try to digitize these, yet.

Douglas Adams Tribute page: I haven't had time to do anything here yet. This is the page that requires the most work. I am in the process of building an online Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (no, not the book. I'm talking about the actual Hitchhiker's guide that Ford and Arthur consult throughout the books). September 12, 2002 I have finally registered my domain name and now have a 12 month hosting deal with ICDSoft. This means I have a lot more space (and other cool things, like a SQL data source), so Badbartopia is going through a complete overhaul. If you hate the new look, please let me know what you hate about it.

Here are the changes underway:

Main page: I am currently adding a news section (which you are currently reading) and possibly a biography and a resume section that will link from this page.

Princess Gallery: I will be adding many more pictures. I have hated being limited to so few pictures of my beautiful girls (and such small images, too). If you don't have access and I know who you are, email me and I will give you access to this page.

DownLoad Area: I will make my applications available for download (instead of available for email requests) as well as the Delphi, VB, FoxPro source code and run time dependency files. I am, by no means, an expert in any of the many languages I develop in, but I will gladly lend a hand to anyone facing Delphi, Visual Basic, FoxPro, HTML, Javascript, or Cold Fusion difficulties. I am also considering placing some of my favorite MP3 and MPEG files on this page for download (try it then buy it, please). I will put more of my favorite shareware/freeware applications (not developed by me) such as LView on this page (I repeat, try and then buy, please). I am going to finish my comic book, book, art, music/movie lists (this is really not for any of you, so you probably don't care) and may even put some of my drawings online for viewing (if I can figure out a way to scan them--most are quite a bit bigger than my scanner).

Douglas Admas Tribute page: This is the page that requires the most work.
