Also, I think you'll find that HR's e-mails will decrease if you'd just stop wearing the gravy-stained wife-beater and short-shorts.
Years of Rice and Salt was OK... some cool ideas, but a bit too preachy... kind of like the author's Mars trilogy.

This is the first book I have attempted by this author (so I can't exactly comment on your Mars trilogy remark). While it may be "preachy," it has offered some interesting insights into Eastern religion/culture.
As for my wife-beater and short-shorts, I resent that assertion! I always make sure to wear a clean wife-beater and only wear short-shorts on casual Friday.
